As the winter begins to thaw, let’s start thinking about a good spring clean…

So, this week has been particularly wet and miserable so far but as we are now into the beginning of March, the warmer weather is not far away and so this is a great time of year for us all to begin thinking about a good spring clean!

Whether you are landlord, tenant or living in your own home, looking after your property and breathing a new lease of life into it every so often is essential in keeping of top of its maintenance and there are several simple ways that you can do this without any major or expensive alterations required…

Start with a clean slate. Scrub the floors, dust throughout, wash the windows to let the sun shine through and declutter as many surfaces as you can. Clean away all of the winter dust and dirt and begin the spring time with a fresh, clean home.

Get organised! Clear out kitchen cupboards, empty drawers of paperwork and things that you have “been meaning to sort out” for ages, tidy away winter clothes…you’ll be surprised how much of a difference this will make to your home!

Give your property a lick of paint. Whether this be a full redecoration or small things like the front door or kitchen units, a quick lick of paint can immediately freshen up any property that is beginning to look a little worse for wear. Why not try an accent wall? You can add a multitude of accessories to highlight this also and easily transform an entire room at minimal cost.

Bring the outside in. Fill vases with your favourite blooms and place them throughout your property to remind you that spring is on its way. Sainsbury’s have daffodils for just £1.20 at the moment, Tesco are doing lovely bunches of rainbow tulips for £5 and of course do not forget all of Bristol’s independent florists who have some fantastic seasonal flowers to offer too (for those of you who know Bristol, my absolute favourite florist is Les Fleurs on Colston Street in the city centre).

Change up your furniture. Time to swap some of that dark furniture for something a little brighter? Or do you perhaps have some items that can be upcycled or given a new look? Have a look on Pinterest for some creative ideas (beware however, it is easy to lose entire evenings to the wonderful world of pinning and creating boards but it’s lots of fun and well worth it for some great inspiration!).

Have fun accessorising. Whether it be a new rug, plants, photo frames, new candles, a lovely spring sent in a new diffuser, cushions, throws…the possibilities are endless! Small touches are a simple way of brightening a room but can have a fantastic effect.

These are of course just a few of many ways to bring spring into your home but we think that they are a good start. I have already dotted flowers throughout my flat and organised my kitchen cupboards – what will you decide to do first?!
