The lovely experience that is Wallfish Bistro in Clifton village

So, we all know that Bristol is absolutely full of great places to eat and drink but there is something about Wallfish Bistro on Princess Victoria Street in Clifton which is just a little bit special…

Wallfish has been part of the village for some time now but my husband and I only made it there for the first time a few weeks ago after hearing numerous rave reviews from friends – and it certainly did not disappoint!

The restaurant is small and simply decorated but has a lovely atmosphere with friendly staff. The menu is simple but has lots of different options and uses plenty of local produce.

To start we had Portland crab on toast and grilled octopus on a black olive pâté served with a rocket salad. Mains were excellent with my monkfish, clams, roasted fennel and salami and my other half’s grilled squid served with black pudding and the most delicious padron peppers (we decided we had to try the duck fat chips too which had been wafting past our table whilst looking at the menu and we were very glad that we did!) After the mains I decided to have a coffee only but quickly regretted not going for dessert when I saw the dark chocolate mousse with salted caramel, peanuts and crème fraiche which was placed onto the opposite side of the table from me – I don’t have much of a sweet tooth but it was absolutely fantastic!

Alongside the brilliant food is a nice wine list too and with seasonal food cooked with such love and care, I think it’s fairly safe to say that we will be returning to Wallfish as soon as we can… If anyone out there is after a new place to try, look no further as this one is a must!
